Prof. Maritim, Professor of Psychology, is the Director, College of Open and Distance Learning, Egerton University. He was formerly the Vice-Chancellor of Egerton University. A seasoned academic, Prof. Maritim, has previously worked at Kenyatta University, UNISA and Open University of Tanzania.

In this session Prof. Maritim details his journey in e-learning starting with his early experiences at Kenyatta University, Egerton University, University of South Africa (UNISA), the Open University of Tanzania and back to Egerton. It is a tale of crisscrossing the continent and picking lessons along the way. As a non-assuming and seasoned academic he dissects the open, distance and e-learning (ODEL) landscape in a simple yet rigorous manner. He creates a thirst for the quest for more knowledge on what it means to succeed (or fail) in ODEL initiatives. More importantly, he will discuss contemporary issues that point towards convergence in ODEL methodologies. In addition, he will discuss the role of the African Virtual University (AVU) in helping shape ODEL in Africa.
